In the devel documnetation there is mentioned that nokia 3310 has display_len 162 chars but that other phones support up to 240 chars. I am trying nokia 6210. How do I set 240 chars? Can it be changed?

Use the sysinfo application. In menu System Info/Settings/Text Length you can set 240 chars.
